"I began to write fanfiction as a prelude to writing original fiction after many years
of specialized, technical writing. I found it both helpful and freeing. It was helpful because I could work on storytelling
without inventing an entirely new set of characters. It was freeing because I could flesh out characters and stories from
beloved shows that often frustrated in those areas. I've written a handful of Stargate SG-1 stories and an Equalizer story.
I keep thinking I must stop writing fanfiction because it takes me away from several novels in varying states of completion.
However, fanfiction is like junk food. It's just too tasty to give up entirely, writing or reading it."
